A really fun event is coming to Pell City. Do you remember competing in spelling bees when you were in school? Were you out at the beginning, or did you make it to the late rounds? Whether you’re an expert or you depend heavily on autocorrect, you’ll have a great time either watching or competing in the Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee.
About The Event
The Great Grown-Up Spelling be will be March 7 at 7 p.m. It will take place at CEPA. You won’t want to miss this fun event.
If the exciting and funny night you’ll have wasn’t enough, you’ll go home knowing you took part in an event that really makes a difference in the community. The Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the St. Clair County Chapter of The Literacy Council of Central Alabama. Last year, it raised more than $3,200. That’s something to celebrate!
If you want to compete, get a team together. Teams can have three members and must register ahead of time. The entry fee is $100 per team.
Make sure you all dust off your dictionaries and study up before the big event! You’ll love having a chance to show off your spelling skills.
If you don’t want to compete, you can still attend the event and cheer on your neighbors. It’s so much fun to see which words stump the contestants and watch them breeze through some common tough ones. The event is free to attend.
Studying Tips
If you’re competing, you want to be sure you put yourself in the best position possible to win. After all, you don’t want to let down your team! According to these tips from the Scripps National Spelling Bee, there are a few things you should think about.
- Keep a list of words that trip you up and memorize them.
- Have a friend quiz you.
- Keep a list of Latin and Greek roots. They’ll help you if you come across a word you don’t know.
- Pay attention to patterns in how words are spelled and keep lists.
